A few tells: they're most alive in comfort and least interested in being palatable. They hoard small treasures, nap like it's a sport, get delightfully scheme-y, and let the savage out — lovingly — when it's safe.
It's not an insult. It's affection. A goblin is the realest person in the room once they trust you — partner, best friend, kid, or that one sibling. If that's someone you love: congratulations, you've got a goblin.
My partner is a goblin — is that good?
Very. A goblin who feels safe being a goblin is loyal, funny, and deeply themselves. The trouble only starts when they feel they have to perform “normal” all day. Let them be feral at home, and you get the best of them.
Wife, husband, partner, the person on the couch in the blanket nest — same goes. The goblin isn't the problem. The cage is.
How do you love a goblin well?
Give them a cave and don't take the slump personally. Feed them the weird snack. Don't shush the savage — let them let it out. Protect their rest. And never make them apologize for wanting what they want.
Mostly: let them be a goblin without treating it as a thing to fix. That's the whole gift.
What if my kid — or my best friend — is the goblin?
Same rules, sometimes a smaller cave. A kid allowed to be a goblin — loud, feral, resting, scheming — grows up trusting themselves. A goblin friend is the one who'll be real with you when no one else will.
